Mariners: April 22, 1997

The '97 Mariners scored five times in the bottom of the eighth inning to go from a 2-1 lead to a 7-1 advantage over the Kansas City Royals. The M's picked up a 7-2 win at the Kingdome.

Jeff Fassero pitched eight innings, allowed one run, and struck out seven to run his record to 4-0.

Chili Davis put the Royals in front 1-0 with an RBI double in the first inning.

Seattle came back with a pair of runs off Tim Belcher in the bottom of the third inning. Joey Cora started the inning with a home run. Later in the inning, Edgar Martinez grounded out to allow Alex Rodriguez to score from third base.

The score stayed that way until the bottom of the eighth. Pinch hitter Rich Amaral doubled in a a run. Dan Wilson singled in two runs. A-Rod doubled in two more runs and the M's had that 7-1 lead. The run that the Royals scored in the top of the ninth didn't matter.

Seattle ended the day 13-7 and in first place in the AL West. They are three games in front of the Rangers.
