APPLETON FOXES 013 120 021 - 10 15 3
PEORIA CHIEFS..001 220 310 -..9 15 0

The game was at old Meinen Field in Peoria and 5,303 came out to see the Foxes and the Chiefs, who were on their first swing as the Midwest League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.

They may have been out to see Rafael Palmeiro make his first professional start. Palmeiro was the #1 pick of the Cubs in the 1985 draft and he went 2-for-5 with a two-run double in the seventh inning that put the Chiefs in front 8-7.

After the Foxes went in front in the top of the eighth, three hits and an error allowed the Chiefs to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth.

Pete Venturini snapped the 9-9 tie with an RBI single in the top of the ninth.

Tom Forrester had a three-run homer earlier in the game for the Foxes. Mike Taylor had a 4-for-6 night with a pair of runs and two RBI for Appleton.

The Foxes are now 46-19 after this win. They are still 11.5 games in front of Madison in the Northern Division of the Midwest League.
