June 30, 2010: Game Notes

TIMBER RATTLERS STARTING PITCHER: DOUG DAVIS.

ABOUT LAST NIGHT:
The River Bandits beat the Timber Rattlers 6-4 in 12 innings. Michael Swinson homered and drove in four runs for the River Bandits. His two-out, two-run single in the top of the twelfth inning broke a 4-4 tie. Chris Dennis homered and drove in three runs for the Rattlers.


PERMISSION TO BUZZ THE TOWER: Rattlers starting pitcher Maverick Lasker went nine innings last night. He allowed three runs (one earned) and struck out eight in the longest start of his career. Lasker took a no-hitter into the sixth inning.

FIRST SINCE: Lasker is the first Timber Rattlers starting pitcher to go nine innings in a game since Michael Pineda tossed a complete game shutout on September 1, 2008. Pineda tossed a one-hitter against Quad Cities at Modern Woodmen Park on that date.

EARLY LEAD: The Rattlers were up 3-0 early in the game. Dennis drove in a pair of runs with a two-out single in the first. In the third, Hunter Morris drove in a run with a double.

QUAD CITIES COMEBACK: The River Bandits scored twice in the sixth and once in the seventh to tie the game.

WOW: In the eleventh, Swinson started the inning with a home run to give the River Bandits a 4-3 lead. Dennis started the Rattlers’ half of the eleventh with a home run to tie the game.

BUT: In the twelfth, Swinson stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. His bloop single barely dropped in to left for a two run single.

NUMBERS: The Rattlers are 0-9 in extra inning games in 2010. Opponents have won 17 games in their final at bat against the Rattlers this season.

JUST A NOTE: The Rattlers lost their final three extra innings games of 2009. They have lost 12 straight games that have gone to extra innings. The last time Wisconsin won a game that went past regulation was on July 24, 2009 when they beat Dayton 5-4 in 11 innings at Time Warner Cable Field.

NOTHING NEW: Quad Cities played 16 innings on Sunday night in a 4-3 win over Kane County. If you add the 14 innings played on Monday and the 12 innings from last night, Quad Cities has played 42 innings over the last three games.

MAKING MOVES: Pitcher Damon Krestalude has been activated from the Timber Rattlers disabled list. He is eligible to pitch today.

2010 SEASON SERIES: The Rattlers are 3-7 against the River Bandits this season. Wisconsin dropped two out of three at Quad Cities from April 17-19. The Rattlers also lost two out of three to Quad Cities at Time Warner Cable Field May 5-7. Wisconsin and the River bandits split a doubleheader at Modern Woodmen Park on May 11. The game that was scheduled for May 12 was rained out and not made up on the schedule.

COMPARE AND CONTRAST: The Timber Rattlers are hitting .249 as a team. They have scored 351 runs (4.8/game) and hit 37 home runs. The River Bandits are hitting .251 as a team. They have scored 374 runs (5.1/game) and hit 46 homers. Wisconsin pitchers have a team ERA of 4.34 while allowing a total of 360 runs (4.9/game) this season. Quad Cities pitchers have a team ERA of 3.82 while allowing 351 runs (4.7/game). The Timber Rattler defense has committed 112 errors. The Bandits defense has committed 103 errors. Wisconsin is 16-24 at home this season. Quad Cities is 19-18 away from home this season.

QUAD CITIES STARTING PITCHER: RHP Eric Fornataro was selected in the sixth round of the 2008 draft out of Miami Dade Community College. He was 6-8 with a save and 3.03ERA in 26 career games (15 starts) in the Cardinals organization coming into this season. Fornataro went 0-5 with the River Bandits in seven games (six starts) at the end of the 2009 season. In his start prior to this afternoon, Fornataro took the loss at home to Kane County on June 25. He allowed three runs on seven hits over six innings. Fornataro has lost four of his last five starts. In three starts against the Timber Rattlers this season, Fornataro is 1-1 with an ERA of 5.40. In 15 innings, he has given up 13 runs (nine earned) on 20 hits with two walks and 11 strikeouts.
