April 19th Game in a Word

Scrappy.

And Southwest Michigan would have gotten away with it, too. If it weren't for those meddling Timber Rattlers.

It was 3-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning. The Rattlers had one hit and no runner had reached second base.

Then, a couple of hits and a botched double play got one run on the board. Luis Valbuena came through in the clutch with a two-out, RBI single.

It was 3-2 in favor of the Rays going into the bottom of the ninth. Eddy Hernandez got hit by a pitch, JB Tucker drew a walk as a pinch hitter. Chao Kuan Wu hit a grounder to second for what looked like a game ending double play. But, the Devil Rays misfired and could only get the out at second. Alex Gary pinch ran for Wu and set the stage for....

Bryan Sabatella, who sent a grounder behind third. Matt Devins fielded it cleanly, but threw wildly to first. Hernandez scored, Gary raced home with the winning run, and the Rattlers five game losing streak ended.

The Streak is Dead! Long Live the Streak!!
