Rattler History...Since 2000

Here is how the Rattlers have fared on April 23…since 2000

2000: The Rattlers lost 3-0 to Peoria. Albert Pujols had a pair of hits off JJ Putz and drove in a first inning run for the Chiefs. The Rattlers had only two hits in the game against the trio of BR Cook, Mike Crudale, and Chad Yates.

2001: The Rattlers lost 12-5 at Kane County. Here was the weather report I had for the start of the game: 55 degrees, West wind 33-43mph. Blake Bone hit a two-run homer in the first inning to put the Rattlers up 3-0, but Kevin Olore had a tough day as the Wisconsin starting pitcher. He gave up nine runs (five earned) on six hits in 3.1IP and took the loss. Jim Kavorious and Will Smith each homered for the Cougars and Wisconsin’s record stood at 8-10. After the game, I was the first person on the bus. This was unusual. There was a team meeting (meaning Manager Gary Thurman did most of the talking).

2002: The Rattlers lost 6-2 at home to Clinton. Ryan Rowland-Smith gave up back-to-back home runs to Josh Labandeira and Dominick Ambrosini in the top of the third. Wisconsin’s only runs were on a pair of solo homers by Sean Peless.

2003: The Rattlers had a scheduled off day.

2004: Burlington beat the Rattlers 4-1. Adam Jones gave the Rattlers a 1-o lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the first. The Bees scored three runs off Nibaldo Acosta in the top of the fifth. Two of those runs scored on a dropped fly ball by center-fielder Wladimir Balentien. Burlington tacked on an Adam Keim homer in the top of the sixth.

2005: The Timber Rattlers beat the Snappers 5-2. Mark Lowe got the win with six good innings and Eric O’Flaherty got the save with a scoreless ninth. Josh Womack and Oswaldo Navarro each drove in two runs.

2006: South Bend beat the Rattlers 5-4 in South Bend. A two-run triple by Manuel Ferrer in the bottom of the eighth off Edgar Guaramato erased a 4-3 Wisconsin lead.

2007: Wisconsin beat the Whitecaps 6-3 in West Michigan. The Rattlers broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the seventh. Gavin Dickey was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Alex Liddi added two RBI and Chris Tillman got the win.

Rattlers are 2-5 on April 23 since 2000. Kind of a crummy day in Rattler history. Although there was a Pujols sighting.
